Welcome to a new era of streamers and rappers
Central Cee drops album of the year contender and Toosii destroys Jace on PlaqueBoyMax's Song Wars.
THE BEAT DROP
A pulse of the culture
If you’re reading this, it’s another Saturday at the crib and I still cannot get over how Toosii did Jace on PlaqueBoyMax’s Song Wars. Central Cee also made an appearance on Max’s stream following the release of his latest project Can’t Rush Greatness — and the UK rapper also made sure to ask permission before he smoked. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar and SZA are preparing for the Super Bowl halftime show.

STEAK REPORT
Feuds, diss tracks and social media spats.
PlaqueBoyMax is doing something incredible with his platform on Twitch, which is bringing rappers together and pushing them to rap with a series I have become fond of called Song Wars. This week, Toosii went up against Jace and won 3-0 to everyone’s shock. This is the same man who released the melodic, yet treacherous “Red Lights” and “Opps,” where he boasts about “opp shopping,” by the way. It’s a learning lesson for all, I suppose.
Watch Toosii vs. Jace in full here.

There are three legal actions Drake has taken against Universal Music Group. One in New York that included Spotify, which was recently pulled by Drake, the one he just filed for defamation in New York and lastly, the one UMG is requesting to be dismissed in Texas due to lack of evidence. Drake has yet to respond.

OUTRO
A final thought.
Hate him or love him, DDG has knocked down a lot of doors for this new era of rap that is upon us. With the growing popularity of Kai Cenat (who openly gave DDG credit for inspiring his career) as well as PlaqueBoyMax, who recently whipped up a song with him called “Pink Dreads,” the streamers (though DDG’s roots are YouTube) have been slowly taking over.
Needless to say, Max’s Song Wars is just the beginning of what’s to come. It’s the most interactive way to experience music-making (as he recently had Cash Cobain whip something up with Bay Swag and more on the track), so-called “beef,” as with Toosii and Jace and BenjiBlueBills’ “Aye Rage.” It also shows how artists make music, as evidenced by the song he and Central Cee created the same day his project came out called “24 hours.” And yeah, Cench is really like that.
I have never seen anything like it. It’s a new era and I am so here for it.
